Don't You Remember What I Told You? (Day 13 of the Resurrection)

Luke 24:44-46

44 Then he said to them, “Don’t you remember the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you? I told you that I would fulfill everything written about me, including all the prophecies from the law of Moses through the Psalms and the writings of the prophets.”

45 He supernaturally unlocked their understanding to receive the revelation of the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Everything that has happened fulfills what the Scriptures prophesied of me. The Messiah was destined to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.

How often we all need to be reminded…of so many things. There’s an ongoing “funny” in our family. I forget what I get for the grandkids for their birthdays and Christmases. When we are together, I will say to my daughters or daughter in law, “That is such a cute shirt.” They don’t even say, “You bought it” anymore - they just look at me in a certain way and I remember!

There is so much that Jesus has taught me or revealed to me through the years of walking with Him but I forget a lot of it as I go along. He doesn’t mind, He is happy to remind me. That is actually one of the jobs of the Spirit now that Christ is gone from the earth.

But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness, the One like me who sets you free, he will teach you all things in my name. And he will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you. John 14:26

The disciples were so sad, so lost in the death of Jesus. He comes into their midst and is so compassionate about their struggle. He lets them touch His wounds; He asks them to give Him something to eat to prove that He is alive. Then He asks them, “Don’t you remember what I told you before?” He reminds them that He told them He would fulfill everything written about Him – all the prophecies from Moses right through the Psalms and the writings of the prophets. And then…I love this line…He supernaturally unlocked their understanding to receive the revelation of the scriptures.

Prayer Exercise: Imagine yourself as one of these disciples. Determine how you are feeling. You might notice it really connects with your present life. Read Jesus’ words to the disciples, to you. Sit in silence, acknowledging your need to be reminded, to have the Spirit’s help.

What do you need to remember today? What do you need to remember about the resurrection? Come, bring your doubts and fears, your forgettings and your needs. Let the Spirit supernaturally open your understanding and remind you of just the thing you need to remember. Whatever the Spirit reminds you of, thank God for His reminder and for supernaturally opening your understanding…and then hang onto it for the whole day!

I’ll share what mine is. Mark, Chapter 3: 11

“Whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and shouted, “You are the Son of God!”

Today I am reminded that Jesus is the Son of God, to whom demons fall down in confession and powerlessness.

Bless you today.
